poole in the second world war
a brief history of what is still there to this day
Studland anti-tank batteries
Located about 700 meters from the beach is a relatively small concrete building that was probably used mainly as a gun emplacement. Being quite far inland it was probably used in an anti-tank role. There was no sign of a mounting when I visited but it is possible that there could be one buried. It would perhaps have mounted a QF 6 pounder (57mm) gun, but a 4 inch navel gun is also a possibility. It is also likely that the building was used for observation and perhaps for command.
