poole in the second world war
a brief history of what is still there to this day
Peveril point gun battery
This is quite an interesting site. Part of the old buildings have now been built into a coastguard station but the rest is still in relatively good condition. The main building is a observer tower/gun emplacement, there is a slab of concrete with a 4 inch gun mount just in front of it, and also a pill box about a hundred metres down the coast. The top of the coastguard station looks new but the foundations and the lower part of the building is second world war. By the looks of it there is a tunnel running from the coastguard station to a garden nearby.
