Moors valley decoy bunker
Now set in the middle of a golf course is the control bunker for what would have been the decoy site at Ashley Heath. This would have served both RAF Hurn and Ibsley. The decoy was a Q and K series meaning that it was a dummy air field. At night a path of lights would be lit mimicking a runway. The idea was that any German bombers would mistake the lights for the real runway and drop their bombs on the decoy instead. Additional lights were added that could only be seen at low altitudes. This in theory would deter any allied planes from landing. The bunker has been partly restored and is opened occasionally to the public. To see when it is open take a look at the links below.
