poole in the second world war
a brief history of what is still there to this day
Gun batteries
The LAA towers, standing for Light Anti-Aircraft were built for defending the cordite factory against low flying aircraft.  There are two sets of two towers.  One set is on private land, but the other set is on Sandford Heath, and easily accessible.  One tower would have mounted a 40mm Bofas cannon while the other would mount a Kerrison Predictor a kind of mechanical computer to control the gun.  The towers remain a major landmark and a eerie reminder of what once happened on the site.
They are situated on Sandford Heath and are easy to access.
