a brief history of what is still there to this day
prototype Bailey bridge stanpit marsh
Although not a defensive structure this is definitely worth putting on the list. One of the reminders that the experimental bridge unit was once based here. It is one of the only examples of a prototype Bailey bridge in the world. You could easily walk over it without even realising what it was. There is another section of bridge in Christchurch which is currently a monument on a roundabout.
