poole in the second world war
a brief history of what is still there to this day
Arne hill HAA battery
Arne hill is one of the best preserved heavy anti-aircraft batteries in the country. Not only are the gun positions still in good condition but also the domestic site. Arne was originally fitted with 3 inch guns but these were later replaced with 3.7 inch weapons. Arne was one of the sites protecting the cordite factory at Holton heath and is the only one to still be in anywhere near good condition. The photos below show in overview of what is at the site.
