poole in the second world war
a brief history of what is still there to this day
RAF hamworthy
RAF Hamworthy was one of two sea plane bases at Poole harbour. It was used relatively extensively until it was bombed, and after that most of the site was abandoned. Most of the site is in relatively good condition. There are two underground bunkers, one was welded up when I visited, the other was open and had at some point been used by the forestry commission for storage. Only one of the above ground buildings was open and this contains a large engine and quite a few 90s computers complete with bullet holes.
